Join Dr. Mayra Gomez of the Gresham Barlow School Board as she presents her journey as an educator titled “Roots to Resilience.” Her passion is empowering youth to pursue a higher education, empower their communities and serve as mentors to younger generations. This is the second installment of the Women of Color Lead lecture series.

Dr. Mayra Gómez graduated from Roosevelt High School in North Portland. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Planning Public Policy and a Bachelor of Art in Sociology from the University of Oregon in 2002. She went on to pursue her Masters degree in Urban Education at the University of California – Los Angeles. She began her teaching career as a middle school social studies teacher in Los Angeles, CA.

Once in Oregon she served as the AVID coordinator and social studies and ELL teacher at Gresham High School. As an administrator, she has held the positions of assistant principal at Reynolds High School and Federal Programs Coordinator at Centennial School District.  She earned a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Curriculum Development from Lewis and Clark College in the spring of 2017 and is currently the Director of College and Career Readiness in West Linn-Wilsonville School District.

Mayra credits her success to the mentorship of community members who believed in her and the endless support and encouragement from her family. Now she strives to do the same for her students.
