September 18, 2020
Stay tuned for a virtual art show and gallery exhibit from two talented local artists for Fall Semester!
My name is Hobbs. I am a Thirteen-year-old intellect, located in the Portland, Oregon, Metropolitan Area. I am the Founder of City Troll, LLC, which is my Urban lifestyle line, initially established in (May 2016). Currently, I’m a student at Steps PDX Dance Academy as a performing soloist, where I primarily train and perform in a Balanchine Technique based curriculum. My training includes Contemporary, Horton Modern Technique, Jazz, and Character. I participate in an architecture introductory pilot class at the University of Oregon and play music recreationally at the Ethos Music Center. My work as a prolific visual artist has debuted in mainstream art institutions and galleries pertinent to the Portland metropolitan area, including the Portland’5 Center for the Arts, Portland Center Stage at The Armory, Basic Space Gallery, and Ori Gallery, to name a few. I primarily produce abstract paintings (i.e., Mix/Multi media on canvas) and prior collectives of ink illustrations. I am pursuing dance as a professional career, in hopes of performing with the Dance Theater of Harlem as a principal dancer. Having my art debut in a permanent collection at a world-renowned institution is another part of my dream.
Emmanuel (Manny) Calvin Dempsey is currently a 7th grader at DaVinci Arts Middle School. Manny has always been extremely excited about all art forms. He wrote and performed original plays for his teachers and classmates. Ever Since Manny was able to hold a pencil, he has always loved to draw. His signature ‘King Funny and the King Boys’ has been highlighted in his earlier art work. In 2017, he was chosen as one of the artist that participated in the “Portland Trail Blazers” game day poster. At his 11th birthday party, he surprised his guests with an original autographed King Funny T-Shirt featuring each of them. He aspires to become a cartoonist and create Black characters that relate to his community. Emmanuel Calvin Dempsey continues to use his art as a vehicle to promote social and cultural awareness.
